City takes action to fix failing retaining walls

The City of Prior Lake is taking action after residents expressed concerns Monday that the retaining walls at Bluffs of Northwood Meadows were unsafe.

Since the public forum, the City consulted a developer to quickly install safety fences. The wall is being monitored regularly.

A report is expected from a structural engineering firm in a few days.

No building permits have been issued since city staff learned about the issue.

Yard waste site opens May 8

It's almost time to break out the lawn mower and dig into the yard work, which means grass clippings, branches and left over leaves from fall.

Beginning May 8 Prior Lake residents will have two Saturdays a month that they can drop off yard waste at the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Compost Site.

The site is open to Prior Lake residents the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October. But there are some restrictions. Branches must be less than eight inches in width and waste containers or bags can not be left on the site.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Compost Site is located about a quarter mile west of the intersection of County Road 42 and County Road 83.
